His father's name is Golam Kibria Gazi and mother's name is Samsunnesa Begum. His formal education began at an institution in Old Dhaka. After completing SSC, he took admission in the Notre Dame College. He completed his B.Sc Degree from Jagannath College of Dhaka in 1968. As an activist of Chattra League, he was active on the highway in the six-point movement and the mass uprising of the 1969. In this continuation, he made a heroic contribution by participating in the liberation war. Narayanganj-1 constituency Golam Dastagir Gazi has long been associated with the highway movement. 6 point movement, mass uprising of 69, election of 71, and liberation war of 1971; in all of these incidents, he fought to leave the illusion of life. As a grassroots leader, he worked to organize the Awami League, and still is working. Golam Dastagir Gazi participated heroically in Sector 2 in the liberation War. As a fighter of the famous crack platoon, he bravely participated in various front wars. In recognition of his heroic contribution to the War of Liberation, the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh honored him with a heroic title.While in politics after independence, Golam Dastagir Gazi used his intelligence, innovative thinking and dexterity to reconstruct the infrastructure of the war-torn country. In1974, he established a factory producing plastic and rubber products, keeping in view the needs of the country and advancing the industrial sector of the country. Inspired by the ideals of Bangabandhu, he has been working for the economic liberation of people of the country.In the first election of Dhaka City Corporation in 1977, Golam Dastagir Gazi was elected Awami League's nominee commissioner from Kakrail, Siddheshwari, Mailbag, Mouchak, Eskaton and Moghbazar areas. Golam Dastagir Gazi, who has passed many ups and downs in political life, started working for the Rupganj area of Narayanganj, his ancestral land from the 90s decade. Golam Dastagir Gazi was the ideal of Bangabandhu despite ignoring the pressure of various castles during the one-eleven of 2006. Later, in the ninth parliamentary election of 2008, he was elected a Member of Parliament with a huge vote from Narayanganj-1 (Rupganj) area. After becoming a Member of Parliament, a large number of development activities were conducted in the area by his leadership. Beyond being a successful businessman and politician, he is widely known as a social worker and a prominent sports sponsor and sports fan in Bangladesh.After 2008, he was elected with the same seat in the Tenth Jatiya Sangsad of 2014 and was also elected in the eleventh Jatiya Sangsad elections which held on 30 December 2018. Golam Dastagir Gazi is the Member of Parliament in the Narayanganj-3 constituency for the three terms drawn. He served as a member of the Standing Committee on the Finance Ministry of the 9th Parliament, the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Liberation Affairs in the 10th Parliament and the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Government Accounting in the same Parliament.Golam Dastagir Gazi was awarded the highest state award 'Swadhinata Padak-2020' (Independence Award) in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the Independence and Liberation War. He also awarded the title of 'Atish Dipankar' for his role in social work. At the individual level, the tenth highest taxpayer in the tax year 2012-13, the third highest taxpayer in the tax year 2013-14, the eight highest taxpayer in the tax year 2014-15, the third highest taxpayer in the tax year 2015-16, and the second highest taxpayer in the senior citizen category in the tax year 2016-17 and the first highest taxpayer in the tax year 2017-18.On January 7, under the leadership of Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he was sworn in as the Minister of the Government of Bangladesh and took charge of the Ministry of Textiles and Jute on 8 January 2019.Golam Dastagir Gazi (Birpotik) has been elected from the Narayanganj-3 (Rupganj) and seats this time as the only title of freedom fighter in the new cabinet. Not only as a liberated war-winner, has he become the first minister from Narayanganj district during the Awami League rule.Golam Dastagir is a member of the Awami League's in Narayanganj district committee and chairman of the Ghazi group. He served as chairperson of Bangladesh China Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Bangladesh Tire Tube Manufacturer and Exporters Association, Mariners Club, Dhaka. He has served as the Director of Kishoreganj Chamber of Commerce and Industries, and Jamuna Bank Limited. He served as Vice-President of Bangladesh Cricket Board. He served as the Director of the Bangladesh Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry. He was a former chairman of Jamuna Bank Ltd. Besides, he is the owner of private satellite television GTV, online news portal Sarabangla.com and the daily Sarabangla.The spread of education has taken priority, in his work and political life. To spread the education, he has established and improved many educational institutions in the field of education. In the meantime, Hasina Ghazi High School established in a remote area under Jamalpur district. He works to improve at Murapara Degree College, Rupshi Model School and College, Bhulta School and College, Janata School and Colleges, and performs his duties as chairperson. He is also the founder of the Ghazi Group Cricketers, the founder of Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club and the President of the Mariners Cricket Club.Through the balanced development and poverty alleviation, the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu has made an effort to develop the Sonar Bangla (or as a soldier to create the Sonar Bangla), in addition to his constituency, he has taken efforts to develop every area of Bangladesh. He is trying to improve the quality of life of the people of the country by assisting self-initiative in education, health, communication, information and communication technology, and cottage industry sector.He has traveled various countries around the world for business and government work such as: the United States, United Kingdom, China, Japan, Korea, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates (Dubai), India, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark. Various countries around the world have traveled for business and government work.Mr. Golam Dastagir Gazi’s (Birpotik) wife, Hasina Gazi is currently serving as the Mayor of Tarabo Municipality of Narayanganj as well as being involved in various social development activities. He has two sons - Gazi Golam Mortaza and Ghazi Ghulam Assaria. In his personal life, he likes sports especially cricket, football, huddu, archery and also like shooting. He has a special interest in cultural practices such as songs, jatrapala and plays; and also practicing and preserving national heritage. He also has a passion for playing musical instruments such as guitar and harmonium.
